Public Enemy

The Public Enemy depicts the falling condition of villages and villagers in China and shapes a vivid figure, Han Dianyi who has introspections on morality. Han Dianyi, in the name of "e;Benevolence and Righteousness"e;, sets up Hantong Group, but later falls into corruption. The past lover's suicide awakens him. Then, he retreats from the society and lives in the grave area. His successor, Tong Heizi keeps the dominated position of Hantong Group, but gets worried after his brother Tong Zhicheng comes back from resignation. At a snow night, Tong Heizi stepped on the road of no return alone. Besides self-accusation, Han Dianyi reveals his living in the grave area for dozens of years. After Tong Zhicheng takes over Hantong Group, Han Dianyi steps into his own grave with the bone ash of his lover. The novel shows a gloomy atmosphere in a sharp narration.
