This book has been written during the authors tenure of INSA Senior Scientists (1996-2000) working on Eco-physiological studies of some metabolic and Cardio-respiratory adaptations of Air-breathing Fishes of India.' Simultaneously money was available from CSIR during the period 1996-99, on a research Project entitled- ';Adaptation of Airbreathing fishes to environmental stress Impact of Environmental Oxygen, Ions and Agrochemicals on the Respiratory, Circulatory and Excretory Organs.' The results of these projects have been incorporated in this book.
