The Tropical Agriculturalist Food Crops and Drought

"The Tropical Agriculturalist" is a series of practical field guides and textbooks for: producers, farmers and farm managers, agricultural extension officers agricultural diploma, degree and vocational students, teachers and lecturers, senior secondary students, as reference books, adult education, rural and community development programmes. Largely targeted towards developing countries, this book explores the characteristics of drought-tolerant food crops which enable moderate yields to be achieved under dryland conditions, and farming practices which enhance such genetic adaption. Ways in which productivity may be icnreased by such genetic and agronomic means are discussed against a background of climatic change and increase in human popualtion pressure on food resources. Examples of traditional and innovative croppings practices are blended with research strategies and priorities of agricultural scientists to promote productivity of the drylands.
