The shift from network-oriented to user-oriented services in the 1980s and early 1990s has increased the penetration of satellite services into the user community. Parallel to this interest has arisen in Personal Communication Services (PCS), where satellites play a crucial role in the provision and expansion of PCs. Within this context, Satellite Personal Communications Networks (S-PCN) are extremely attractive because they can serve a significant sector of the expanding cellular market. These conference proceedings cover such topics as satellite system architectures, multiple access, network and mobility management, exploitation of KA and EHF bands, modulation and coding, business and service provision, and propagation channel characterization and modelling.
