Die Musik Am Alten St. Marien-Dom in Hamburg (1277-1782)

When the gothic Hamburg cathedral was demolished in the course of the secularization (1805), a musical tradition of nearly 1200 years came to an end. During Catholic and (since 1529) Protestant times, the cathedral choirmasters and organists had made notable contributions to the music life of the city.
