This title was first published in 1964: The purpose of the present study is to examine the issues involved in designing an efficient economic system in given historical circumstances.

The author draws heavily on the experiences provided by the failures and successes of the postwar Yugoslav economy. The book is one of the first major studies, in English, of the theory of an economy of the Yugoslav type.
