The Lives of Women

Thirty years ago Elaine was a teenager, growing up on a small out-of-town 1970s estate. Every day the men go to work while the women repress the tedium of suburban life: frustrations and appetites are hidden behind a wall of respectability. Yet Elaine sees that most houses have their secrets. When an American family moves into the estate, the veneer of respectability begins to crack. The neighbours start to socialise with each other, they learn how to drink martinis, children are left to their own devices. Thirty years ago a tragic event changed their lives.
