This paper presents experimental data on the study of the effect of static deformation of fibroblasts on glycosaminoglycan metabolism. Glycosaminoglycans are polysaccharides whose carbohydrate part is proteoglycans. Glycosaminoglycans in proteoglycans are part of the intercellular substance of connective tissue and are found in bones, synovial fluid, the vitreous body, and the cornea of the eye. Together with collagen and elastin fibers, proteoglycans form the connective tissue matrix (the main substance). We studied the metabolism of hyaluronic acid, chondroitin-4-sulfate, and dermatan sulfate. Proteoglycans cover the surface of cells and play an important role in ion exchange, immune responses, and tissue differentiation. Genetic disorders of glycosaminoglycan degradation lead to the development of a large group of hereditary metabolic diseases called mucopolysaccharidoses.
