This handbook is the first work to document all the fairy tales which appeared in the Grimm Brothers' lifetime and locates them in their historico-cultural context. There is a detailed commentary on each tale, which draws on the most important international research literature; particular attention is paid both to thematic links within the collection and to the Tales' continued survival and revitali-sation in the most varied literary genres and audio-visual media. The Guide contains comprehensive indexes of names, works and subjects, together with indexes of titles, types of tale, motifs, sources and contributors.
