Adventures of Flash and Fidget
A little about the Author, Melanie M. Aleman created Flash and Fidget books to encourage her son, David, to read. He hated to read and struggled in his academics. He felt defeated and dreaded going to school for this purpose. Several years later they had uncovered that he had many learning disabilities playing against him. You would have never known just talking to him that he was struggling so much. He was then diagnosed with ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Sensitivity disorders and more. They saw specialists and practically lived in medical facilities for testing and therapies. Getting assistance from his school had been tiresome, having to be an advocate and fighting for what he is rightful to, while trying to decode the IEP manuals. These were practically written in a different language. This is when Melanie wanted to create a book that David would enjoy. She created Flash and Fidget in large print, small chapters to help him feel accomplished while reading and illustrated a picture per page to keep him engaged. The book was silly, relevant and hidden educational lessons. She even added her "Flip-O-Mation" technique, bringing her characters to life while flipping the pages back and forth. David loved this book; he went to school and told all his friend about it His teacher questioned Melanie about this book she never heard of. Melanie was then later asked to do book reads for classes and make appearances in schools. Now that Flash and Fidget became a hit, she continues to create more books with her infamous characters.
She knew there are many families going through the stresses of the "run-around" so that's where the Flash and Fidget Foundation comes into play. We don't want any kids getting swept under the rug or labeled as "Bad Kids" because of their behavior or slipping grades. Most of the time, kids want to please and be proud of their accomplishments. Kids who act out, are doing it for a reason, and sometimes it's a learning disability that they can't explain. Let create awareness by educating families of signs and symptom, explain IEPs and 504 plans so parents can understand their rights, and raise money to help pay for expensive testing that insurances don't cover. Let's "Unlock the Brilliant Minds of our Future "
