The publication we present here tries, on the one hand, to penetrate into the deep meaning of words, as pristine elements of human communication and, at the same time, to verify, from experience, how meaning in communication can be altered with use and the passage of time. In this aspect, etymology helps us to recover the original meaning of words, their "reserve" of meaning that continues to remain in the terms we use, recognizing, at the same time, how every act of creation or recreation of words carries a density of meaning that in most cases endures, totally or partially, through changes.
