Prefaced by a short mythological sketch of the city, the narrative begins with the invasion of Ghazni from ad 1000 and since then, how Delhi was the centre of a succession of mighty empires and powerful kingdoms. Due to its strategic location the successive rulers made Delhi its capital – the Delhi Sultanate, the Tughlak kings, the Lodis, the Mughals. The book takes us through the brief history of these dynasties.
