War Games

David Levinthal, a central figure in American postmodern photography, has staged tableaux using toys and miniature dioramas for nearly 40 years. This book features his photo series on the subject of war: Hitler Moves East (1975-77); Wild West (1987-89); Mein Kampf (1993-94); I.E.D.(2008), among others. These tableaus constitute a remarkable critique of the ways society experiences conflict through its portrayal.
