In one awful month, Amelia loses a boyfriend, a best friend - and, most devastating of all, Joel, the beautiful hippie who was supposed to make it all better. She develops highly unusual coping methods. As the years go by, Amelia, the writer who does not write (other than unsent letters to Joel) learns to revel in the everyday joys life hands her...until Joel reappears to turn that life on its head.
