A study of the archaeology of the Intersalar area of southwest Bolivia and of the widespread settlement linked to the exploitation of salt and other local resources. Traces the changing multi-ethnic population from the early Formative Horizon through to the periods of Inca expansion and eventual Spanish colonisation, twelfth to sixteenth centuries.
