Unexpected: Parents' Experiences of Preterm Birth

Recent research demonstrates that for many parents, having a preterm baby is an unexpected and often traumatic experience that shatters their expectations of parenthood. In preparing this book, we listened to parents' stories and talked to physicians, social workers, nurse practitioners and nurses. From these conversations, we created and illustrated the stories of four fictional characters and their journeys through the alien world of the NICU.
