"e;Undine"e; is a 1811 fairy-tale novella by Friedrich de la Motte Fouque. The story centres around a water spirit called Undine who, in order to obtain a soul, marries the knight Huldebrand. It is an example of early German romance that has been translated into a variety of languages and adapted for the stage and screen numerous times. Being Fouque's most famous work, "e;Undine"e; was extremely popular during the nineteenth century and is not to be missed by fans of German literature, fairy tales, and folklore. Friedrich Heinrich Karl de la Motte, Baron Fouque (1777-1843) was a German writer.
