Over breakfast at Jimmy's diner, Finny and his friends tell her the story of "Tracy Loves Ray". The tale begins when Tracy accepts a dream job in LA. It will be the first time she will be separated from Ray, her high school sweetheart. Before she leaves for the west coast, she paints the declaration "Tracy Loves Ray" on an overpass she knows he'll see every day. Despite plans for Ray to join her after she settles in, the lover's reunion is delayed and the miles between them seem to grow the longer they are apart.
