Thomas Carlyle

Thomas Carlyle was a prominent Scottish philosopher, historian, and author during the Victorian era. Carlyle is also considered to be one of the greatest social critics of his time. Carlyle's most popular works include Sartor Resartus, On Heroes, Hero-Worship, and The Heroic, and The French Revolution. This is an excellent biography on Carlyle written by Hector Macpherson in 1896 just fifteen years after Carlyle's death.
