Every day things happen as they do every other day. We become comfortable with the routines that determine our lives accepting the characters we meet on a daily basis. The bus ride commutes into town, the quiet man who always reads to himself, and the acceptance that he was nobody special: a man of no consequence. That was every day. Written off by the two loud women who dominated the back seat at the end of the bus, how could he be anyone important? But it's strange how things change, even our perception of other people, once we get to understand that they too are human and have their gifts and skills. And who is he? And how important could he be to the very women who mocked him on the bus? He of course, is a man with a very important mission The Tortoise Keeper is the short story of a special man, like all people are; a quiet and patient steward intent on saving what could be lost. It is an environmental tale and a Christian story, centered on our perceptions of others based on their outward appearance. As after all, appearances can be deceptive. It is also written to set a series of challenges for us all for we need to change if our species is to survive. It's also a book about tortoises.
