Boselmia, the Raven Queen, struggled for years to bring the Deer King back into the world. Now that he's here, she is beset by enemies on all sides. Desperate to keep the Deer King alive, she flees north, where past and present dangers threaten to catch up to her.

Fighting personal demons, the Raven Queen reflects on her youth, when her mother-the previous Raven Queen-waged a relentless war to strike a blow against the Harrish settlers spreading across Dreyland. Boselmia wishes to do the same. But as events conspire against her, she struggles to hold on to the faith that sustained her mother before her.

The Sundering is the second in a planned series of fantasy novellas set in Dreyland, a colonial world where the indigenous people rely on the power of a reincarnated god to help them offset the technological superiority of the settlers.
