The Odd Saga of the American and a Curious Icelandic Flock is the fictional tale of a witty American college student and his ill-fated semester in Reykjav k. Finally granted the long-awaited opportunity to study biology in Iceland, Alex Welch joins a local research team investigating a vitamin deficiency among the country's sheep. However, after an unusual detour from a journey to collect blood samples for the project, Alex increasingly suspects that his colleague and traveling companion, Snorri the veterinarian, has "sold his soul" to a crooked group of slaughterers. As the story unfolds, Alex's suspicions of corruption are confirmed, though in a way that he could have never envisioned. The American's semester quickly unravels when Snorri's transgressions come to light, but not before Alex meets an offbeat cast of characters and endures the September 11th attacks on foreign soil.
