The Diary of a Nobody

Charles Pooter, a lower middle-class clerk and the 'Nobody' of the title, believes that his rather ordinary life is just as interesting as those of 'Somebodies' and that the reading public would be fascinated by his diary. Self-important, socially inept and gaffe-prone, his chronicle of the daily lives of himself and his family (his wife, Carrie, his son, Lupin, and Lupin's highly unsuitable fiancee, Daisy Mutlar) is an hilarious series of small disasters. George & Weedon Grossmith captured the essence of the small man with big delusions so accurately that 'Pooterism' has entered the language as a term for someone with a tendency to take themselves rather too seriously.
