The clinically organ-confined adenocarcinoma of the prostate

This monograph addresses the basic dilemmas surrounding prostate cancer. These include the 40 percent histologic incidence of invasive cancer in men in comparison to a 3 percent death rate, the extraordinary slow doubling time of 4 to 5 years for untreated clinical stages, the limited life span of even healthy men over 70 years of age, and the national and international debates over how to treat cancer. It is important to recognize that, despite these uncertainties, prostate cancer is probably the most prognostic of all human solid tumours. This monograph adds strong support to basic concepts for much of this predictability.
