Temporomandibular joint considerations in Orthodontics

Temporomandibular Joint has long been an area of interest in Orthodontics. Normally functioning TMJ is one of the important factor for normal physiologic growth. The harmony of the interface between the teeth, muscles, nerves, supporting tissues and TMJ is must for a balanced orofacial environment and provide health, functional efficiency, aesthetics and stability to entire somatognathic system. One of the goal of orthodontic treatment is establishment of harmony between occlusal function and TMJ. Malocclusion and their treatment and the presence of joint disorders may cause alteration in the anatomy or physiology and the relationship of the joint. It is therefore necessary to have on depth knowledge of all the aspects of TMJ and its clinical implication. This book deals with the basics of TMJ through an orthodontic perspective.
