Te Huarahi

Te Huarahi Maori Initial Teacher Education programme began in 1997, and since then it has proved to be radical and innovative. The programme enables its graduates to teach in Maori-medium and te reo Maori programmes at primary and intermediate level. It broke new ground and impacted the entire education sector.


This book covers the programme’s history, pedagogies and practices. Through contributions from teachers, students, graduates and administrators, the book explores its impact on the teachers, the students and the language.
