Tao-te-king

The Tao-Te-King (Book of Way and Virtue) is a profound philosophical work attributed to the Chinese philosopher Lao-tse. This book expresses a profound understanding of the principles of life and nature. It begins with a provocative statement that expresses the essence of the Tao: "If we could point out the way, it would not be the eternal way." The book focuses on the concept of the Tao (the path) which cannot be named or defined, but represents the true essence of everything. Historically, the book was not known until the sixth century AD, and although information about Lao Zi''s life and whether he was a real or legendary figure is not clear, the influence of his book on Chinese thought and philosophy was profound.
