Swept to Hell

A year after the devastation of Gettysburg, the Union remains in peril, Confederate offensives and Peace Democrats seeking to oust a beleaguered Lincoln from the presidency. But with the fall of Atlanta and sweeping Yankee victories in the Shenandoah Valley, the momentum of the Civil War rapidly shifts to favor the North. The perspective of the conflict's final nine months changes from high-ranking figures, like John Bell Hood and Phil Sheridan, to more humble soldiers, such as the sharpshooting rebel rover and the Sollers brothers; two privates fighting for the Union, both serving in different armies. In "Swept to Hell", the war provides a bond that brings some characters together in support of emancipation and an undivided nation, while other more desperate fellows continue hatching last-ditch plots due to rogue fanatical beliefs.
