Instantly captivated by a mysterious woman he spies while on spring break, Pete Stanton manages to catch a quick snapshot before losing her in the crowd.

Five years later, he's now a partner at a successful law firm. Drifting in and out of relationships, Pete finds himself valuing the chase more than the conquest-that is, until he once again catches sight of the mysterious woman.

Her name is Bennanne Twigg, and flattered by Pete's obvious infatuation, the two plunge into a tumultuous relationship. But soon real life gets in the way as Bennanne warns Pete not to get too close. She'll be leaving for Paris in the fall to study as a Fulbright scholar-a dream she holds dear to her heart.

As they attempt to navigate their new relationship, Pete starts to fall in love. His abrupt marriage proposal to Bennanne, however, is rebuffed, and he is once again on his own. But a puzzling message from Bennanne sends the normally clear-thinking Pete on a plane to Paris to try and win back the woman of his dreams.
