Shahrzad: A True Story

Shahrzad Mirgholikhan was born in 1977 in an Iran teetering on the brink of great change. Her childhood years are marred by eight years of war with Iraq but her zest for life survives Saddam Hussein's bombardments. At the tender age of eighteen Shahrzad's parents manage to cajole their vivacious daughter into marrying a young man called Reza; hoping matrimony will temper her strong-willed nature. To Shahrzad's surprise she finds her husband isn't an overbearing possessive man but a fun loving companion who has no intention of clipping her wings. Reza and his family are harboring a dark secret though; a secret that will inevitably rip them apart. Barely out of her twenties Shahrzad becomes a divorcee with two children. Her second marriage proves just as tumultuous as the first. In the hope of changing her stars Shahrzad leaves Iran but Masuod, a seasoned charlatan follows. Wherever she goes he is there. Just as she thinks she's given him the slip her phone rings and it's him. Only after five years in a US prison does she finally manage to shake him; five years that will test her fortitude and faith to the very limit. Locked up with the scum of American society Shahrzad witnesses more than her fair share of depravity and fights tooth and claw to get back to her girls. More than two decades of bad luck fail to dampen her spirits though. Her devotion to her twins Melika and Melina, her incredible sense of humor and ability to laugh in the face of adversity are what pull Shahrzad through in the end. She is now a successful Business woman residing in the Sultanate of Oman.
