The concept of a set is fundamental to all mathematics. This book will introduce children to the cardinal numbers from one to ten, to the ordinal numbers from first to tenth, and to the fact that the cardinal numbers themselves form an ordered set. These number concepts are developed through appropriate experiences with sets of objects. The set experiences that are appropriate for the age group for which this book is written are experiences with concrete sets-assemblages of objects that children can see and manipulate. These experiences prepare children to understand the set concepts, terminology, and symbolism that are introduced in later grades. The experiences provided in this book are: (1) matching of sets; (2) formation of the subsets of a set; (3) arranging the members of a set in a line; and (4) partitioning a set into two sets. With sets and numbers you learn about adding and taking away, about matching and comparing, about putting together and taking apart, about left and right, about before and after, about counting. When you open this book you will begin to see all that you can learn from sets and numbers.
