Seeking Affection

Secret afternoon trysts at a beach house in Wilmington, North Carolina lead to divorce and a lawsuit. Emily Chambers, a thirty-something stay-at-home-mom, thinks she is happily married until she meets handsome and charismatic Andy Bennett at a movie industry party in a historic mansion. Sparks fly and Emily embarks on an affair with Andy, who is from a wealthy, well-established local family. When Emily's husband, Josh, learns of the affair, he insists they go to their Baptist minister for counseling, but it doesn't work. Emily and Andy divorce their spouses and marry. Not long after the wedding, Josh seeks revenge by suing Andy under North Carolina's "Alienation of Affection" law that allows a rejected spouse to sue the person responsible for breaking up a marriage in an affair. Despite Andy's family wealth, his financial well-being is threatened.
