Marietta Davis was a young woman who, aged twenty-five, went into a deep slumber that lasted nine days: upon waking, she told those present of religious visions she had experienced whilst asleep.

The visions Marietta attested to have experienced were wide-ranging. They included scenes from the Bible; baby Jesus at Bethlehem, an adult Christ suffering upon the cross, and His resurrection. The heavens were also represented, with various amazing descriptions of God's realm delivered. Many of her recollections are vivid in their detail, with the scenes brought thrillingly to life by Marietta's gifts of eloquence. As she recounted these sights, the Reverend J. L. Scott took detailed notes, which were compiled, arranged and edited into this book.

Just seven months after her visions, Marietta Davis died - moments before her death she began to sing a hymn with her family. By the end of the song, she had departed. Marietta had predicted her date of death accurately, which spurred further interest in the visionary experience she had undergone. This reprint replicates the original 1858 edition, and includes the eight illustrations.
