S. Rachmaninoff. Variations on a Theme of Chopin. Op. 22. Variations on a Theme of Corelli. Op. 42

"Variations on a Theme of Chopin" were written in 1903 and to some extent represent a "workshop" composition, reflecting Rachmaninoff's searches in the field of piano texture. The cycle is based on the famous prelude in C minor, shortened by the composer to eight measures. "Variations on a Theme of Corelli" is one of Rachmaninoff's later works. Variations are dedicated to Fritz Kreisler, whom Rachmaninoff considered the best violinist of his time. The theme in the genre of folia, forming the cycle, is one of the earliest known themes of European music. Corelli used "Folia" in his Twelfth Violin Sonata, creating a cycle of variations on its basis.
The edition is addressed to pianists - students of music colleges and universities, as well as concert performers.
