Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. For the reasons here briefly stated, Omar's personality must be regarded as an insoluble problem, although its general features, I think, may be guessed at. The trustworthy reports of his life are too scanty to provide even the outlines of an accurate historical sketch, while hardly a ray of light can reach us through the mass of foreign material in which his poetry lies inextricably embedded.
