The author and her husband moved to the Blue Ridge mountains in mid-life to begin a homestead.  The challenges were many and there were surprises, twists and turns as well as profound physical dangers over a 23 year period.  In these pages, Cynthia vividly describes the panoramic landscapes, interactions with the local wildlife, the backbreaking work and the sheer will to persevere in the face of her husband's declining health as well as serious injury to herself.
