First published in 1933 Renascent India aims to explain the how and why of the Indian problem and it really succeeds in explaining them, by marshalling all the relevant facts of hundred years from 1833-1932. The book represents inside knowledge and is written with real insight and sympathy from the Indian point of view. H. C. E. Zacharias makes available a mass of hitherto inaccessible material (including two unpublished letters from the late Edwin S. Montagu) and his book constitutes a scholarly treatise, almost the first reference book on the subject. The narrative reads like a thrilling story and rivets the reader's attention from first to last.
