The book is a collection of articles and essays about the thoughts, theories, adventures, successes, failures, and spiritual doubts for those who are searching for meaning or purpose in their lives. This is not a "how-to" manual as everyone must construct his/her own existential path of discovery. To help with that, the author describes his own journey with shocking transparency, and offers examples, instructions, and ideas that will enhance a helpful search for others. A Missouri native, Baker's vocational background is in pastoral ministry and Christian social ministry in Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia and Arizona. He was president of Arizona Baptist Children's Services for the last fifteen years of his ministry. He holds graduate degrees in theology (M.Div.) and social work (MSW) and was awarded an honorary Doctors Degree of Human Services by Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. Baker has authored three books and numerous published articles in church-state relations, children's homes history, care for troubled youth and parent education. He has taught in the graduate School of Social Work at Arizona State University and undergraduate social work at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. He is married and he and his wife have four daughters and five grandchildren.
