This paper explains one possible design for a hybrid peer-to-peer client server system. This system offers the enormous advantage of greatly reducing server traffic, but also results in a noticeable deterioration in quality for the player. However, since current games still crash completely when there is very high demand, players may be willing to accept a slight reduction in quality if this means that consistent stability can be achieved, especially since this difference in quality is hardly noticeable to players.
