This book covers the historical sites of Gudimallam, Tadpatri, Somapallem, Lepakshi, Ahobalam, Srikalahasti, Tirupati/Tirumala, Udayagiri fortress, Chandragiri palaces, etc. Chapters of the book discuss painted model shrines from Tirumala and Tirupati, ceiling paintings at Lepakshi, ornate Vijayanagara temples of Tadpatri and Somapalem, kalamkari textiles and temple hangings at Srikalahasti among others. The book ends with an epilogue on the region about temples submerged in the Srisailam dam and deteriorating temple paintings.
