Public Paintings by Edvard Munch and His Contemporaries

The papers in this book (published in association with University of Oslo Conservation Studies (IAKH)) address the changes in appearance in Munch's 19th- and 20th-century paintings. These have been documented by traditional as well as more recent scientific methods of examination. Topics include: Munch's works in major Norwegian collections; the artist's' commission for the University of Oslo Aula and some aging phenomena evident in these artworks; notes of the methods and materials of the artist's experimental drafts and the present condition of these drafts; past and present conservation campaigns for Munch's public paintings in various countries; and the painting materials and degradation in works by Munch and his contemporaries.
