Project: Månen, architect: Manthey Kula

The summer house Månen (2021) is situated at Hamburgö on the Swedish west coast. .The discovery of two rock shelves at approximately the same height sparked the idea of spanning the hill's natural ravine with a bridge, thus allowing this unique area of the site to remain untouched", as Per Olaf Fjeld reflects in his essay .Full Moon": .The house as a suspended object appears to have just landed or rather docked in place." Manthey Kula partners Beate Hølmebakk and Per Tamsen designed Månen as a home where practice and family life are closely linked. The small, clear cut and precisely detailed wooden building refines a long-term tradition in Norwegian architecture. Spatially, Månen reflects the potentials of the site, an informal program of in- and outdoor living, and explores the architectural ideas of a summer house. This 30th volume of asBuilt presents the full set of drawings for the Månen project, including sketches for the structure by the renowned engineer Finn-Erik Nilsen. Photographs by Karin Björkquist & Sébastien Corbari document the building set in the granite landscape close to the sea. Essay by Per Olaf Fjeld. Edited by Karl Otto Ellefsen and Dagfinn Sagen.
