Portslade

Portslade in Old Photographs presents the town's rich and varied history. Long the most important parish in the area, Portslade has contained within its boundaries diverse occupations and industries, such as farming, fishing, brewing, gas production, market gardening and, notably, Ronuk, the famous red polish.

This book illustrates the fabric of life in Portslade through its superb collection of over two hundred photographs and their accompanying captions. These focus on the people who worked there, the schools they attended and the buildings which were their familiar landmarks. Special features are the Church of St Nicholas, datig from the twelfth century, and the neighbouring manor house, both of which embody the long and fascinating pasts of this part of town.
