Pleistocene Environments in the British Isles

Engelsk
Recent developments in Pleistocene research have prompted the authors to produce this concise account of environmental changes during the last two million years. It constitutes an attempt at an overall assessment of the evidence from the British Isles and their immediate offshore area, some of which relates to a discrepancy that has arisen between deep-ocean and land-based records of climatic changes over the timespan. Investigations of deep-ocean sediments have revealed many more cycles of environmental change and a considerable effort has been made to locate and date the missing terrestrial evidence, sometimes with new techniques. The Pleistocene is defined as extending to the present day and the most recent environmental changes discussed are those of the last few decades. "Pleistocene Environments In The British Isles" is mainly devoted to a regional treatment of Pleistocene environments stage by stage, with techniques briefly introduced within this context at its outset. It is also highly illustrated with maps, diagrams, tables and plates and contains an extensive reference list for further reading ideas.
