Psychotherapist Jan Teague's personal and professional life is a mess. Downing more prescription drugs than most of her patients, she ends up being rescued from the floor of a coffee shop's restroom by a Buddhist cop, whose observations start her on a self help road to recovery. But although full of good intentions, this road quickly carries Jan over a cliff when she is arrested for theft, leaving the scene of an accident and assault. Sent for enforced rehab at the Serenity Clinic in Orange County, under the questionable care of TV psychiatrist and all round shyster, Dr. Karl Karpov, Jan befriends a teen pop star being held there and drugged against her will. With the help of family, friends and estranged sportswriter husband Al, Jan and the teen escape and go on the run.
