Towards the end of the 1970s, two highly respected art photographers collaborate on a project to photograph the women's gymnastics events at the Olympic Games. Having no prior knowledge of the sports world, this proves to be more difficult than they had anticipated. Then they are offered the chance to be given VIP access to the event if they agree to use a prototype of a new camera - one that stores images as computer files instead of on film. As the two photographers prepare for the project, they have to deal with their own artistic and personal motives for engaging with the subject, the ethical problems of seeming to support the abusive training programmes of East Europe and the degree to which technology is becoming more important than creativity.
