Our World is Like One Big House: Our New Immigrant Friends primary goal is to help young American students know about the diverse cultures in the world. At the same time, American children are inspired and encouraged to develop friendships with their classmates who have moved to the United States from other countries. We are fortunate to have students who come to the United States from many other parts of the world, bringing their varied, unique backgrounds with them. The book shares an illustrated story highlighting three students who are having such an experience. It also shares realistic fictional stories of immigrant students transitioning into their new lives in America depicting their particular needs, fears, struggles and most importantly, their successes. Making these new friendships opens many doors for the American and new immigrant students. Questions are included for small group work or classroom discussions. Finally, teachers receive some important tips to help the new immigrant students adjust to their schools and classrooms.
