New Zealand

This text provides a study of New Zealand's post-1984 reforms which combined a market liberalization programmme with a macroeconomic stablization programme. These reforms included: deregulation of the financial sector; the removal of various forms of assistance to producers, particularly in the agricultural sector; the increased import liberalization; radical tax reform; a major overhaul of the public sector; and the privatization of state enterprises. The book analyzes the reform programme and its effects and considers what lessons it may provide for policy-makers elsewhere.
