Meditation, of almost any style or technique, is an exercise that focuses on the body's nervous system (of which, the brain is a major part of). Calming the mind to be in the present moment; to creating higher levels of energy in the mind and body to heal (physically, mentally, and spiritually) through meditation, always involves exercising the nervous system. When we calm our thoughts, we reduce neural activity in the brain.
