My Meter is Running is a fictionalizedsemi-autobiographical account of the five years theauthor spent in the nether world of nightime Manhattanas a NightHawk, driving a fleet Checker Cab in andaround Manhattan, NY, desperately searching for lovewhile finding sex, drugs, and Rock 'N' Roll instead, andexperiencing the daily early evening rebirth ofManhattan's all night party first hand,watching people being drawn inexorably toward itsunique promise of human connection in a city ofsometimes intolerable alienation.
